Grand Theft Auto V is an action-adventure game played from either a first-person or third-person perspective. The game features an open world environment set within the fictional state of San Andreas, based on Southern California. Players control three protagonists—Michael De Santa, Trevor Philips, and Franklin Clinton—and switch between them during gameplay.
Players complete missions—linear scenarios with set objectives—to progress the story. Outside missions, players can freely roam San Andreas, and engage in various side activities. The game features a large selection of vehicles players can operate, including cars, motorcycles, aircraft, and boats. The single-player story focuses on their efforts to commit heists while facing pressure from a government agency and powerful criminals.
